The key tasks are to:

  • T2.1 Collect samples after each unit process of the wastewater treatment line from ten WTPs and HYSAF. Consideration will be given to both grab and composite sampling techniques;
  • T2.2Based on the EC type, analyse trace organic substances using solid-phase extraction (SPE) or liquid–liquid extraction (LLE) followed by liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry (LC-MS) or gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS) and develop a summary of frequency of detection and maximum concentrations detected of the analyzed ECs;
  • T2.3Monitor screened ECs from T2.2 for transformation within the WTPs;
  • T2.4Evaluate various unit processes in treatment works for their effectiveness in degrading various classes of ECs;
  • T2.5Assess the removal of endocrine disruption chemicals (EDC) w.r.t. WTP operating parameters such as SRT, F/M, temperature and HRT;
  • T2.6Develop a comparison of the Indian data with the available international/UK (e.g. CIP) data and explore performance investigation for a community scale WTP near Exeter in the South West Water catchment (as in SWW LoS).
